I've experienced a similar problem from my work network. Only a few specific port numbers were allowed through the firewalland that was preventing it from accessing realxtend server (which was running with default settings). I had to play around with the port numbers a little (changed authentication and opensim server settings to port accepted by our firewall) in order to finally get connected.
