Of course, OpenSim is quite close so perhaps it wouldn't be a
prohibitive amount of work to make Naali connect to Second Life as
well, but I assume it would be quite a project to get it through
Linden Lab's acceptance requirements. We're not going to go that way

It probably works, 'cause the protocol is the same. But the last time I looked there was a stupid bug in Naali that it handles the login URI so that it doesn't understand URLs that have some path besides the servername+port part. I.e. URLs like world.mydomain.org:8002 work, but the SL loginuri http://agni.secondlife.com:someport/cgi-bin/login.cgi or so didn't 'cause Naali said cgi-bin/login.cgi is an invalid port or something :)

That said, it is probably not very rewarding to use Naali for SL 'cause the prim rendering is not optimized so it's probably quite slow there, and many features like Linden trees are not implemented. Also the SL avatars are not enabled by default now (you have to rename one xml file).

It might be interesting though for applications where you make some custom UI or other custom functionality in a client side plugin in Naali. We've had some ideas for that, like annotations to scenes using 3rd party annotation servers. Dunno if that violates the Linden viewer policy -- basics of the policy seemed sane, basically targetted against copybotting which I think we could respect there.

what is second life ?

Just Kidding - i think that doesnt work and even if it worked, it maybe
could get your account banned for using a viewer thats not on the TPV list
of Linden Lags
