This is because LLUDP (the SL protocol) is not very fast nor reliable
for transferring big data. With Naali and Taiga usually HTTP is used for
the asset downloads, and that's reliable at least .. and yes faster.
Linden also changed to http assets later on, in slviewer2, but the old
rexviewer doesn't have that. In SL that is used for textures currently
('cause they don't have mesh assets yet in public).
I didn't find from previous emails why using Naali is out of the
question for Manos Fokides -- hopefully something we can fix.
