Ah, OK. When I invoked the strip operation, then did a write on a separate
line, there was no error. I was trying to think of a way to run striptags.r at
the same time, for times when it has not already been run. Obviously, I did it
wrongly.
I still have not removed the two odd lines of HTML, though.
