That's not how I remember it.
I remember doing renames in the shell to move
stuff around on the same volume. (on amiga).
That's the reason it's always implemented,
because it's fast.
Show me an example of renaming across a path
that doesn't work on a particular platform,
then I'll begin to believe it.
