IOS   is  different.  However,  I  don't  think  Carl  was  really
suggesting to have IOS' Messenger (or Conference) globally replace
email, since IOS is not something designed to be "global"...

You  can send a message to me in IOS, even if I am not online, and
I'll  get  it  as soon as I am online; then, I can leave it there,
and  answer when I want to; the message does not disappear, and is
always available for future reference.
