A CHRISTMAS FAIRY TALE

Legend has it that Snow White's dwarves went out to find precious gems. But
I heard that isn't necessarily so! Here's what REALLY happened! Grumpy,
Sleepy, Doc, Dopey, Bashful, Happy, and Sneezy all told me the same story:
They were slaving down in the diamond mine one day when they saw this
bright, red light coming at them. It frightened them terribly. When the
thing got close, they could see its big antlers, and it spoke.
"Hi, guys! My name's Rudy. I got a big problem. See I work for Santa Claus.
I'm the team leader for his sleigh. It's the off season now, so he sent me
out to search for help. See not very many kids know it but real bad kids
don't get presents for Christmas. They get lumps of coal. Santa has a crew
that works in a coal mine under Big Rock Candy Mountain. (Around Christmas,
the lemonade streams are glaciers it's so cold on the mountain.)
"Well, not long ago, Santa's regular work crew came down with the flu.
Yeah - all of them! And, even though he doesn't need much coal (there aren't
very many real bad kids) he could see he wasn't gonna have enough. He almost
panicked. Then Mrs. Claus happened to mention the situation to her
girlfriend, Snow White. Snowy said her guys were having trouble finding
diamonds and she thought that maybe they would jump at the chance to work
under Big Rock Candy Mountain. Mrs. Claus told the boss. Man, was he
relieved! He called up Snowy right away and hired her crew!"
The dwarves all told me they think it's a sweet place to work. There's
chocolate dust, marshmallow cream snow, hot chocolate springs, candy cane
stalactites, cinnamon rocks and dust - all kinds of goodies! They looked
sharp for gold, too, but they didn't find any. They found something they
think is silver (but I found out its only aluminum.) They got enough coal to
stick in the stockings of the real bad kids, too. But Santa Claus needed all
of it. To prove it's true, they gave me a pan of candy coal to share with
my friends. They didn't give me any coal. (Good thing I don't have any real
bad friends.) They said to warn folks to look out for the silver. They tried
to get all of it out, but they were afraid they might have missed a little.
So, as the dwarves told me to do, I'm sharing the candy coal recipe through
cyber space - direct from Big Rock Candy Mountain - with my good friends.
