Marty Stuart Producing Porter Wagoner Album Wed. December 06.2006 5:40 PM EST Marty Stuart is producing Country Music Hall of Fame member Porter Wagoner's new album, his first for Anti Records, the Los Angeles-based label home of Tom Waits, Neko Case and others. Wagoner wrote most of the songs for the project, but it also features "Committed to Parkview," a previously-unrecorded song written by Johnny Cash. Stuart recalls that Cash gave him a demo of the song to forward to Wagoner. "John said, 'I've got a song for Porter. It's about a stay in Parkview, which is an asylum at the edge of Nashville. Porter and I both have been guests there.' Cash gave me a cassette of the song in 1981 and asked me to get it to Porter. I never got around to it until we started collecting songs for this project. I searched my warehouse and found the envelope ... with a note from John to Porter. Twenty-five years after I was supposed to and three years after his death, I did what I told John I would do. I delivered the song, and Porter loved it." The album, Wagonmaster, will be released in 2007 to coincide with Wagoner's 50th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
