Bob Wills Selected for Lifetime Achievement Grammy

Western swing bandleader Bob Wills will be honored posthumously with the
Recording Academy's lifetime achievement award at a ceremony during the
upcoming
Grammy Week activities in Los Angeles. Others announced for the award
include Joan Baez, Booker T. & the MGs, opera singer Maria Callas, jazz
saxophonist
Ornette Coleman, the Doors and the Grateful Dead. Wills, who died in 1975,
was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1968. The Recording
Academy
will also bestow trustees awards on Stax Records co-founder Estelle Axton,
New Orleans recording studio owner Cosimo Matassa and Broadway composer
Stephen
Sondheim. The 49th annual Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 11 at Staples
Center.

Wreckers, Big & Rich Perform During NHL All-Star Activities

The Wreckers, Big & Rich, Trisha Yearwood, and Garth Brooks are among those
scheduled to appear during the National Hockey League's All-Star Celebration
taking place Jan. 20-24 in Dallas. The Wreckers will sing the national
anthem prior to the all-star game on Jan. 24 at the American Airlines Center
and
will also perform during the intermission. Big & Rich will headline a
private party sponsored by the NHL on Jan. 23 at Gilley's club. Yearwood
will perform
during a concert benefiting Brooks' Teammates for Kids charity. Brooks will
host the event taking place April 22 at the Hyatt Regency.

Former Nashville Novelist Pens Charity Christmas Song

Novelist and songwriter Cathie Pelletier, who co-wrote the Texas Tornados
single "Who Were You Thinkin' Of" while she was living in Nashville, has
written
and executive produced a Christmas record to raise funds for charities in
her current hometown of Fort Kent, Maine. Pelletier drafted ordinary
townspeople
-- including a carpenter, a janitor and a FedEx driver -- to sing the song,
"Northern Maine Christmas." Under the name K. C. McKinnon, Pelletier wrote
the novel Candles on the Bay Street, which recently aired on CBS-TV as a
Hallmark Hall of Fame film starring Alicia Silverstone.
