Some helpful hints
As the shopping days dwindle down to a precious few, you may find your energy tank running on empty and your health suffering. Try these five simple tips to keep your energy reserves up. 1. Make sleep a priority. Try to turn in (and totally tune out) no later than 11 p.m. 2. Limit alcohol intake. Besides adding empty calories, it depletes B vitamins and lowers your immune system. 3. Drink lots of water. That headachy, run-down feeling could be dehydration, accelerated by cold weather and indoor heat. 4. Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables in your daily diet to insure you're getting a full array of vitamins, nutrients and fiber. 5. Avoid colds by washing your hands frequently. Carry anti-bacterial wipes to cleanse shopping basket handles and other high-contact surfaces. Staying hydrated will keep your mucus membranes moist which will help prevent viruses from entering your system. And don't forget moderate exercise, it's great for boosting your immune system as well as your confidence and over all health. Drinking plenty of water will also make you look and feel better, while curbing your appetite too. Keep a water bottle handy during the day and let your thirst be your guide to make sure you drink water throughout the day. There is no specific requirement for intake, * a general requirement for women is 91 ounces per day and for men are 125 ounces per day. Remember foods rich in moisture like fruits and vegetables contribute to your total water intake for the day. - Source: Dietary Reference Intakes for the Institute of Medicine.
