A lot of songs are written because of inspiration, or from an idea or a
theme, but according to Norro Wilson, none of that applied when he and
Blake Mevis
wrote Charley Pride's 1983 number one hit, "Night Games."
Norro said, "We just wanted to write a song that Charley Pride would
record. There was no great idea or any other reason. So we set a time, got
together,
sat down and wrote "Night Games." Blake had some ideas, we chose the
title and wrote around it. After we decided on the title, the song almost
wrote itself
which is usually the case, once you have a hit song title."
"Night Games" entered the country music charts June 25th, 1983 and was
number one the week of September 17th.
The RCA single was Charley's 29th number one and his 49th to hit the top
ten list. It was his 52nd charted song and was on the charts for 21 weeks.
