  Homemade Soup--Microwave

  14 cups of water
  10-14 tbsp chicken soup base
  1 or 2 chicken breasts
  1 small onion (optional)
  1/4 cup rice
  1/4 cup barley
  1/4 cup alphabet pasta ones
1-2 potatoes cut into bite-size cubes
  19 oz can tomatoes

Fill pot (I use the 5 qt. one) with water and get it boiling. While
waiting for the water to boil, I microwave a chicken breast until
  cooked.

Cube the chicken and place in water. Then add the chicken soup
base. This must go according to your taste. I like it to just start
looking the color of chicken bouillon and still not too salty. Then
add the rice, barley, alphabets, potatoes and tomatoes. Let it
simmer gently for about 1/2 hr. I don't put any salt or pepper or
spices. We add that when we eat it.

If you put more rice, barley or alphabets than is called for, it
will get too thick. Still good, but more like eating a bowl of
  macaroni.

  Freezes well.

  Smiles from the LR
