Walnut Cake

1 c. walnuts, broken
Boiling water
1/2 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs, separated
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
3/4 c. milk

        Cover broken walnuts with boiling water for a few minutes then drain.
Set aside.

        Cream butter and brown sugar together and add well-beaten egg yolks.
Beat egg whites until stiff and set aside.

        Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and
cloves. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Add walnuts.
Fold in egg whites.

        Bake in three greased layer pans at dg350 for 20 minutes or until
lightly browned. Cool and frost with Butter Cream Frosting.

Butter Cream Frosting

1 c. butter
3 c. Confectioners' sugar
6 tbsp cream
1 tbsp vanilla

        Cream together butter and sugar, then beat in cream and vanilla.
