Sounds like some type of muffin or pancake, but I have no idea.

  Abelskivers

  3 eggs, separated
  1/2 tablespoon sugar
  1 cup buttermilk
  1 cup milk
  1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  1 cup flour
  1/4 teaspoon salt
  3/8 teaspoon baking powder
  5/8 teaspoon baking soda

  Beat together sugar and egg yolks. Mix wet ingredients together.
  Sift dry ingredients together. Add wet and dry ingredients
  alternately to egg yolks/sugar mixture. Beat egg whites until
  stiff. Fold in beaten egg whites.

  Melt 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons. shortening in each cup of abelskiver
  pan over medium-high heat. Fill each cup with batter. Turn to
  brown on each side. Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
  Recipe can be doubled or tripled.
