Orange Liqueur
Source: old magazine clipping Peels of 6 oranges 2 whole cloves 3 c vodka 1 c sugar 1/2 c water Rind of 1 lemon Cut & scrape clean orange peels of all pith; then chop fine. Slightly crush cloves. Place finely chopped orange peels & cloves in glass jar with vodka, cover tightly & steep 6 days; shaking mixture daily. Strain through coffee filter paper. Make sugar syrup by combining sugar, water & lemon rind in saucepan, bringing to boil; then covering & simmering 30 min. Stir cooled sugar syrup into strained orange mixture, plus a drop of yellow & red food coloring, if desired. Seal & store in dark place. Note: 1 tsp glycerin per qt of finished liqueur will produce a thicker consistency.
