Rustic Apple Pie

Ideas:
âEURO¢ Instead of apples, fill with plums, peaches, nectarines or
pears in season.
âEURO¢ Try cinnamon or allspice instead of nutmeg, orange zest
instead of lemon.
Serves 8
Active: 20 min/Total: 1 hr
1 refrigerated pie crust (from a 15-oz box of 2)
3 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp freshly grated lemon peel
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
3 Golden Delicious apples
(about 11/4 lb)
1 Tbsp butter, cut into pieces
1. Heat oven to 450ºF. You'll need an ungreased baking sheet.
2. Unroll pie crust onto baking sheet.
3. Mix sugar, lemon peel and nutmeg in small cup. Sprinkle 1 Tbsp over
crust. Peel and core apples; cut into Â1/2-in.-thick slices.
4. Leaving a 1Â1/2-in. border, arrange apples on crust as shown.
Sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture, then dot with butter. Fold edges
of pastry over apples, casually crimping dough to fit.
5. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven to 375ºF and bake 25 minutes or
until apples are tender and pastry is golden. Remove to wire rack
