Mindy McCready Receives One-Year Jail Sentence
Fri. September 14.2007 5:18 PM EDT

Mindy McCready has been sentenced to one year in jail for violating her
probation on a drug charge. The singer will receive a 75-day credit for time
served
but faces another two years of probation when she is released from the
Williamson County jail in Franklin, Tenn. In handing down the sentence Friday
(Sept.
14), Circuit Judge Jeff Bivins also ordered McCready to perform 200 hours of
community service work for the parole violation that stemmed from a domestic
dispute in Florida. In July, deputies in Fort Myers, Fla., arrested her on
assault charges after scratching her mother during an argument. She was also
charged with resisting arrest. During Friday's hearing, the 31-year-old singer
requested a lesser sentence, telling the judge, "Please give me a chance
to make things as right as they can possibly be." McCready, who has faced
numerous legal problems in recent years, has been in jail since returning to
Nashville in July. Her original probation was part of a three-year suspended
sentence she received in 2004 for using a false prescription to obtain
painkillers.
McCready enjoyed a No. 1 country hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time."
