Thousands of bluegrass musicians and fans are in Nashville this week for the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) World of Bluegrass business conference, as well as Fan Fest, which offers three days of live music starting on Friday (Oct. 5). The IBMA Awards will be presented Thursday night (Oct. 4) at the Grand Ole Opry House with host Sam Bush. In addition, the Ryman Auditorium held a Bill Monroe tribute concert on Tuesday night (Oct. 2) featuring the Del McCoury Band, the Grascals, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Jesse McReynolds and Steep Canyon Rangers. Performers at Fan Fest will include Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Marty Raybon, Cherryholmes, the Infamous Stringdusters and many more. CMA Donates $655,624 to Nashville Schools Thu. October 04.2007 6:26 PM EDT The Country Music Association donated $655,624 to Nashville public schools on Thursday (Oct. 4) as part of its Keep the Music Playing program. The funds will help build music labs and purchase instruments and supplies. Artists are not paid for their appearances at the annual CMA Music Festival. To show its appreciation for their work, the CMA donates half of the festival's net proceeds to charity on behalf of the performers. Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus and Nashville Mayor Karl Dean attended the donation ceremony. Marty Stuart Honored for Preservation Work Thu. October 04.2007 6:26 PM EDT Marty Stuart was presented with the Joe Talbot Award from the Country Music Association on Wednesday (Oct. 3) to honor his work collecting and preserving country music memorabilia. Stuart accepted the honor at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, where a portion of his private collection is on display through Nov. 11. "You all know how much I love country music," Stuart said. "I stepped off the bus [in Nashville] when I was 13 years old for a weekend and never went home. I dedicated my life to it. I love this music. We are a family." Talbot, a lifetime member of the CMA board of directors, died in 2000. Johnny Cash Christmas Specials Coming to DVD Thu. October 04.2007 6:26 PM EDT Two televised Christmas specials featuring Johnny Cash will be released on DVD on Nov. 17 by Shout! Factory. Neither special has ever been commercially available. The Johnny Cash Christmas Special 1976 was filmed at two of Cash's homes and features June Carter Cash, Tony Orlando, Roy Clark, Merle Travis, Barbara Mandrell and the Rev. Billy Graham. The 1977 special was filmed at the Grand Ole Opry House and includes an all-star tribute to Elvis Presley, featuring Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison.
