MOM'S OLD FASHIONED FILLED COOKIES
1/2 c. shortening 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1/2 c. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 3 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder Combine and cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg, milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients; add to batter and mix well. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut cookies with round cutter. Put cookies on large cookie sheet and drop filling into center of each. Top with second cookie and seal edges lightly. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. MOM'S OLD FASHIONED COOKIE FILLING: 8 oz. box chopped dates 1/2 c. water 1/2 c. sugar 1 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. vanilla Combine all ingredients and cook over medium heat until thickened.
