GRANDMA WHITE'S DATE FILLED SUGAR COOKIES FILLING:
1 c. dates, cut up 1 tbsp. flour 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. hot water Cook filling and let cool while baking cookies. Mix and cook until thick. Cool then add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 cup chopped nuts. COOKIE: 1 egg 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening Pinch of salt 3/4 c. milk 3 c. flour 3 level tsp. baking powder Mix cookie ingredients together; then add a little more flour and roll out. Make equal number of circles. Cut center smaller hole in 1/2 of circles. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake on greased cookie sheet until slightly browned on edges. Cool. Spread filling on whole circle and place the circle with a hole on top.
