Subject: {mays-server} guide dog announcement

Week before last, we sent the following press release to Phoenix news
outlets, but to my knowledge, this information has not appeared in the
newspapers or on television. We very much would like to get this
information to graduates of Eye Dog Foundation. If there is anything
you can do to assist us in getting the word out, that would be
wonderful. Thank you so much.

The Seeing Eye Offers Support to Eye Dog Foundation Graduates

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Seeing Eye, Inc., of Morristown, N.J., the oldest
dog guide school in North America, is stepping in to offer support
services to graduates of the Eye Dog Foundation until the Phoenix-based
dog guide school can re-open its doors.
Eye Dog Foundation announced earlier this month it would temporarily
close the facility. In the interim, The Seeing Eye, with about 1,800
active graduates in the United States and Canada, is offering
instructional services to Eye Dog graduates who might need follow-up
services.
"When we match a Seeing Eye dog to a student, our commitment to that
team does not end once the 27-day training ends," explains Seeing Eye
President Jim Kutsch. "We continue to provide assistance to graduates
during the entire life of the partnerships with their dogs. Sometimes a
graduate will move to a different neighborhood and require additional
training to navigate a new and particularly difficult intersection, for
example. Or a dog that has experienced interference from someone's pet
dog might suddenly develop a fear of other dogs. In those and other
cases, we will send an instructor to help the graduate resolve these
issues."
Until Eye Dog Foundation is able to re-open its doors, The Seeing Eye
will offer these services to anyone with a dog guide from the Phoenix
school. For information on receiving these services from The Seeing
Eye, Eye Dog graduates should call The Seeing Eye at (800) 539-4425 and
ask for the Training Department.
The Seeing Eye, established in 1929, provides specially bred and trained
dogs to guide people who are blind. Seeing Eye dog users experience
greatly enhanced mobility and independence, allowing them to retain
their active lifestyles despite blindness. The Seeing Eye is a
philanthropy and is supported by contributions from individuals,
corporations and foundations, bequests, and other planned gifts.
