Diagnosed with a bronchial infection, Faith Hill has canceled a Friday night
(Feb. 8) performance honoring Aretha Franklin, one of the major events leading
up to Sunday night's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Franklin is being honored as
the Recording Academy's MusiCares person of the year. MusiCares provides
assistance for those in the music industry during times of financial, medical
or personal need. Others scheduled to perform during the tribute at the Los
Angeles Convention Center include the Blues Brothers (Dan Aykroyd and Jim
Belushi), Fantasia, Ledisi, John Legend, Patti Austin, Shirley Caesar, Herbie
Hancock and Andrea Bocelli. In a statement, Hill said, "I am devastated and
deeply disappointed that I will not be able to sing at the MusiCares dinner
honoring Aretha. I have been looking forward to being a part of this event for
months, and even after being diagnosed with a bronchial infection, I came
to L.A. anyway hoping that I'd be able to sing. I simply can't." Hill and
husband Tim McGraw's recording of "I Need You" is up for a Grammy in the
category
of best country collaboration with vocals.

Big Kenny Challenges Novice Filmmakers
Fri. February 08.2008 4:21 PM EST

Kenny Alphin -- Big Kenny of Big & Rich -- and his wife, Christiev, have
challenged students at Nashville's Watkins College of Art and Design to create
a short film aimed at making the world a better place. The couple recently
visited the school in downtown Nashville to meet students and to explain the
importance of using one's talents to inspire others. Alphin has been outspoken
in his efforts to help fight the genocide that continues in the Darfur area
of Sudan. The couple will award a $2,500 budget to the two students or teams
who win the competition. The money will then be used to create a more extensive
film with the assistance of personnel from Alphin's Love Everybody Web site.
