Alison Krauss Cancels Carnegie Hall Gig With Bobby McFerrin

Alison Krauss canceled a Thursday night (Feb. 21) appearance with vocalist 
Bobby McFerrin and bassist Edgar Meyer at New York's Carnegie Hall because of
an undisclosed illness, according to a spokesperson for the venue. The event is 
part of McFerrin's Perspectives series of themed concerts at Carnegie Hall.
His future collaborators in the series include Yo-Yo Ma and jazz greats Chick 
Corea and Jack DeJohnette. Mandolinist Sierra Hull and guitarist-banjoist
Ron Block, who were scheduled to appear Thursday as part of Krauss' band, will 
still perform with McFerrin and Meyer. Krauss' tour with Robert Plant is
scheduled to begin April 19 in Louisville, Ky.

Levon Helm Among Winners at Folk Alliance Conference

Levon Helm, Uncle Earl and singer-songwriter Tom Russell were among the winners 
Wednesday night (Feb. 20) in Memphis at the Folk Alliance's third annual
awards presentation. The event kicked off the organization's 20th annual 
conference that continues through Saturday. Helm was named traditional artist
of the year, Uncle Earl received album of the year honors for Waterloo, 
Tennessee and Russell's "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall" was selected song of the
year. The contemporary artist award went to Susan Werner. One of the 
conference's keynote speakers is former U.S. attorney general Janet Reno, who 
recently
served as executive producer of Songs of America, a CD featuring new versions 
of 50 classic songs that chronicle the history of America. ASCAP will honor
Canadian music legend Ian Tyson during a Friday night tribute.

Randy Kohrs Featured on Rachael Ray Show

Nashville-based singer, songwriter and resophonic guitarist Randy Kohrs is 
featured on Friday's (Feb. 22) episode of the syndicated Rachael Ray Show. In
a segment taped at Kohrs' Nashville home for the program's "Coolest Kitchens in 
America" feature, he displays a custom-built booth designed after the seats
of his own '64 Chevy Impala. He and his band, the Lites, performed "She Ain't 
Comin' Back" from his latest CD, Old Photograph. He later traveled to New
York City to appear in the TV studio with Ray. Earlier this month, Kohrs won a 
Grammy for producing and performing on Jim Lauderdale's The Bluegrass Diaries.

Olivia Newton-John Will Walk Great Wall of China

Olivia Newton-John will walk along the Great Wall of China starting on April 7 
to raise money for a cancer charity. The full distance is 228 kilometers
(141 miles) and the walk is expected to take 21 days and be completed in 
Beijing. Newton-John lived through breast cancer in the 1990s. She is donating
her proceeds to a cancer research facility in Melbourne, Australia, her 
hometown. Newton-John scored seven Top 10 country hits in the 1970s and was 
named
the CMA female vocalist of the year in 1974.
