1/2 cup sugar 1 tbsp cornstarch 1/4 tsp nutmeg 4 cups peeled, sliced fresh peaches 1 tsp lemon juice 1 cup flour 1 tbsp sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 3 tbsp shortening 1/2 cup milk Heat oven to 400 F. Mix 1/2 cups sugar, the cornstarch, and the nutmeg in a 2 quart saucepan. Stir in the peaches and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir for one minute. Pour into an ungreased 2 quart casserole. Stir together the flour, 1 tbsp sugar, the baking powder, and salt. Add the shortening and the milk. Cut through the shortening with a fork until the dough forms a ball. Drop the mixture by 6 to 8 spoonfuls onto the hot fruit. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
