THE GLORIOUS TOMATO

A fresh tomato is more than just a treasured taste. Nutritionally 
speaking, a medium tomato has:

Very low calories (35) and no fat

Vitamin A (20 percent of daily needs)

Vitamin C (40 percent of daily needs)

1.5 grams fiber (about the same as a slice of whole-wheat bread)

Potassium -- 300 milligrams (a good source)

Lycopene, an anti-oxidant: Tomatoes are a primary dietary source. A

Food and Drug Administration study concluded there was no strong link 
between 
lycopene in tomatoes and reduced cancer risk, but strong evidence 
suggests 
tomatoes and a diet rich in vegetables may reduce the risk of heart 
disease.
