Trace Adkins Gets U.S. Senators' Support in Food Allergy Legislation
Mon. June 09.2008 5:18 PM EDT

Trace Adkins is working with the two U.S. senators from Tennessee to promote
legislation to assist schools in protecting 2.2 million children nationwide
who suffer from life-threatening food allergies. Adkins, whose 6-year-old
daughter Brianna suffers from severe food allergies, raised public awareness
of the problem while raising money for the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network
(FAAN) as a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice. Senators Lamar Alexander
and Bob Corker, both Republicans, announced Monday (June 9) they will
co-sponsor the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Act to develop voluntary
guidelines
for schools to prevent exposure to food allergens and ensure a prompt response
when a student suffers a potentially fatal reaction. The bill also calls
for grants to be provided to implement food allergy management guidelines in
public schools. Noting that he and his wife have been seeking this legislation
for more than three years, Adkins said, "There have been no consistent
standardized guidelines to help schools safely manage students with their food
allergies.
This bill will help keep kids safe while at school and parents will be more at
ease knowing an action plan is in place."

Alabama Band Sues Drummer Mark Herndon
Sun. June 08.2008 11:14 AM EDT

Mark Herndon, drummer for Alabama, is being sued by the other three band
members for overpayment of $202,670 generated from merchandise sales during
their
2003 American Farewell tour, the Chattanooga [Tenn.] Times Free Press reports.
Listing The Group Alabama Inc. as the plaintiff, the lawsuit was filed in
nearby Fort Payne, Ala., the band's hometown and longtime headquarters. The
suit alleges Herndon was paid for his share of net merchandise sales before
the tour's final accounting was completed. The suit claims "there were no net
merchandise revenues as defined by the contract" once the accounting was
finished. It also states that Herndon has demanded a payment of $65,047 as an
advance on his share of profits from the sale of The Last Stand, a concert
CD that is being sold by Cracker Barrel restaurants. In addition to seeking
recovery of the $202,670, the lawsuit also contends that Herndon's share of
future earnings should be withheld until the full amount is repaid. Alabama
members Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, Jeff Cook and Herndon were inducted into
the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sat. June 07.2008 10:46 AM EDT

Sara Evans accepted a national award from the Red Cross at her fan club party
in downtown Nashville on Friday afternoon (June 6). Evans, a member of the
charitable organization's celebrity cabinet since 2005, dedicated the Crystal
Cross award to her fans. In addition to a performance with her band, she
also thanked her fans for their prayers during her divorce last year. "This
time last year at my fan club party, I have to be honest with you, I don't
really remember much about that night or much about that week or that whole
year because I was under a tremendous amount of stress. I was crying all the
time," she said. "And you guys have been there with me through all of it. I
have received so many letters and e-mails full of well-wishes, and people
telling
me they were praying for me and your prayers worked. I just want to say thank
you from the bottom of my heart because I'm not even the same girl that I
was last year. I've never felt more blessed, I've never felt more love, I've
never felt happier and I've never felt healthier. And I've never felt more
loved than I do right now. I just want you to know how much I appreciate it."
