Hello everyone
for some of you who didn't know, I have been away for about a week:
well, I just got back yesterday, and both Daniel and I had a great time, we
spent all the days with my parent's, and we celebrated their 38th wedding
anniversary with them.
first, we left to Placerville, where we visited the gold mines, and did tours
of the mines of where gold and diamonds were found, then we stayed at a
historic land mark hotel, and sorry, I can't remember it, but according to the
hotel registery, it's where people like Mark Twain, and others of that era
stayed and dined.
This was in Nevada City.
we stopped at south and north lake tahoe, and that was fun, we water skied, and
literally jumped in the lake, LOLOL!
water was freezing, but fun...
we stopped at many old town salons, and visited with many historians, I felt
like I was in a history class again, LOLOL!
My parent's had just got back from south dakota, wounded knee, to stay and
visit with the Sioux Indians, and that was very difficult, since this tribe
still carries anger, spite, bitterness(and really can't blame them)
resentmentand etc...
these people have no hope, I mean they choose not have any hope, and it's
truely sad, but what was so amazing, was that my parent's told us that upon
meeting them, you must not look them eye to eye, or face them, to them it is a
challenge or a threat, so you must always look away, and in no way shape, or
form are you to approach them, they will come to you, if they wish to, and you
must not shake their hands, but if they offer it is only a slightly sweep of
the finger tips, anything more means you are stronger, and it means battle...
There is so much hate, and so many suicides, and mostly between the ages of 12
and 18, because they are not allowed to leave the reservation, and if they do,
they are disowned, and are not welcome again... and since they have no
education, or even know there is anything outside of thier 1 mile land, they
are lost...but then they refuse to go out and find other's.
Their counsel gives them allowences and this means $400 a month, per family,
and it is not given to them all at once, but in allowence, because there is
alot of alcoholics, and sadly, alot of rapes, between families, because it's so
sad...
so these children, grow up knowing only this way of living.
This specific tribe lives across the other tribe, which are not natives, but
families of natives, and this tribe is alot more fortunate, they have money,
food and supplies, because the counsel is more aware of them.
and, they, this tribe, allows their people to go outside of the reservation,
and has "moved on", unlike the poor tribe )the natives, full blood) , they
still are in the mentallity of "white man" is only bad, and will forever
betray...
it is truely sad, no hope, and not even the children, this is a sad story, and
all this, because of the masacure(sorry on spelling) in the 1800's and the last
attack in 1973 when Nixon was president...
this just took them over the top, and refuse to have anything to do with "white
man ways" they do not even allow their children to recieve any form of
education...at least not from anyone else, and it's a very sad story, and very
long, but man, what a story...
They also visited the Black Hills, Mount. Rushmore, and other small cities in
that area.
well, it was fun and a learning experience.
so glad to be back, and so glad to be home.
enjoy
