APPLE SLICES COFFEE CAKE   

      2 1/2 c. flour
      1 heaping tsp. sugar
      1 tsp. salt
      1 c. shortening
      1 egg mixed with milk to measure 2/3 c.
      1 c. sugar
      1 tsp. cinnamon
      6-8 apples, pared and sliced thin
      1 egg white

      GLAZE:

      1 c. powdered sugar
      2 plus tsp. water

      Sift together flour, 1 teaspoon sugar, and salt; mix in shortening as for 
pie crust. Add egg and milk mixture. Roll out 1/2 dough to fit large cookie 
sheet. 
      Spread apple slices on crust. Mix 1 cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over 
apples. Roll out other 1/2 of dough and place over apples. Pinch edges of crust 
together. Beat 1 egg white and spread over crust. 

      Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. Make Glaze. Use just enough water to 
have thick spread. Put on crust as soon as it is taken out of the oven.
