Kellie Pickler Will Promote New Album During National TV Appearances Thu. September 25.2008 6:06 PM EDT
Kellie Pickler will travel to New York City for appearances on Today and Live With Regis and Kelly to promote her self-titled, sophomore album that will be released Tuesday (Sept. 30). She performs Tuesday on Today and will perform her single, "Don't You Know You're Beautiful," during Wednesday's (Oct. 1) appearance on Regis and Kelly. She'll return to Today on Wednesday for an additional interview during the fourth-hour segment of the program. Pickler is also featured on the cover of the current issue of First magazine. After completing her media appearances in New York, she joins the Sugarland tour on Oct. 2 in Ames, Iowa. Nashville Music Executive Joe Galante Honored by CMA Thu. September 25.2008 6:06 PM EDT Sony BMG Nashville chairman Joe Galante was presented the CMA President's Award by the Country Music Association during the organization's board of directors meeting on Thursday (Sept. 25). In surprising him with the award, CMA president Randy Goodman cited Galante's leadership, creative thinking and dedication during almost 25 years on the CMA's board of directors. Galante oversees Sony BMG's country division which includes the RCA, Arista, BNA and Columbia labels and an artist roster featuring Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert and Jessica Simpson, among others. Johnny Cash's America Documentary Due in October Thu. September 25.2008 2:18 PM EDT A new documentary titled Johnny Cash's America will be released in a CD/DVD package on Legacy Recordings on Oct. 28. It will feature an unreleased recitation by Cash, "I Am the Nation," which was found among his personal belongings after his death. In the documentary, Cash also discusses the differences between the two political parties in the U.S. Other musicians with interviews in the project include Bob Dylan, Snoop Dogg, Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Kris Kristofferson, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and Vince Gill, as well as Cash's children, John Carter Cash and Cindy Cash. The documentary will also air Oct. 23 on the Biography Channel. CMA Donates $1 Million to Hall of Fame's Words and Music Program Thu. September 25.2008 2:18 PM EDT The Country Music Association (CMA) has donated $1 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame's Words and Music program, a project designed to assist language arts and music teachers with classroom instruction in the basics of writing song lyrics. The program is one of eight educational programs for area schools sponsored by the Hall of Fame. The museum provides teachers with lesson plans, including a 10-song CD and accompanying lyric sheets licensed especially for this program, and pairs students with volunteer professional songwriters who add melody to their compositions. The 2008-09 school year marks the 30th anniversary of the Words and Music program.
