Wade Bowen, Cherryholmes and Kellie Pickler are among the country and bluegrass
artists releasing new albums this week. A favorite on the Texas club circuit,
Bowen co-wrote eight of the 12 tracks on If We Ever Make It Home (Sustain
Records). His collaborators include Radney Foster, Jedd Hughes, Clint Ingersoll
and Stephony Smith. Cherryholmes III: Don't Believe (Skaggs Family) follows the
family band's two previous albums, which were both nominated for Grammys as
best bluegrass album. Pickler's self-titled album (BNA/19) includes the single,
"Don't You Know You're Beautiful."

Earl Scruggs Releases Live at the Ryman
Tue. September 30.2008 12:44 PM EDT

Banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs released a new album, The Ultimate Collection/Live
at the Ryman, as a digital download on Tuesday (Sept. 30). A CD version of the
Rounder Records project will be issued on Nov. 18. Scruggs first appeared at
Nashville's Ryman Auditorium in 1945 during a Grand Ole Opry performance as a
member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. However, the live album from his 2007
concert captured his first time there as a headliner. The 18 tracks include
several of Scruggs' signature songs, including "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and
"The Ballad of Jed Clampett." His backing musicians include his sons, Gary and
Randy Scruggs, along with drummer John Gardner, fiddler Hoot Hester,
mandolinist Rob Ickes and guitarists John Jorgenson and Jon Randall.

Kevin Costner Will Tour to Promote His Country Album
Tue. September 30.2008 12:44 PM EDT

Actor-director Kevin Costner and the band, Modern West, will release a country
album, Unknown Truths, on Nov. 11. Costner wrote or co-wrote all 12 tracks for
the album to be released by Universal Republic/Universal Records South. The
band's history dates back to the '80s when Costner met musician John Coinman
during an acting workshop in Los Angeles. They began playing and writing music
together and formed a band called Roving Boy. As Costner's acting career
progressed, he was unable to devote as much time to the band, although he and
several of the musicians continued to write and record music. Costner and
Modern West will begin touring later this year to promote the album.
