Soft Italian Breadsticks 

      1 cup water (70 to 80F)
      3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
      1-1/2 teaspoons salt
      3 cups bread flour
      2 tablespoons sugar
      1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
      1 teaspoon garlic powder
      2-1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

      TOPPING:
      1 tablespoon butter or
      margarine, melted
      1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

In bread machine pan,
place the first eight ingredients
in order suggested by manufacturer.
Select dough setting
(check dough after 5 minutes of mixing;
add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed).
When cycle is completed,
turn dough onto a lightly floured surface;
divide in half.
Cut each portion into 12 pieces;
roll each into a 4-inch, to 6-inch, rope.
Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
Cover & let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 20 minutes.
Bake at 350 for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately
brush with butter; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Serve warm. Yield: 2 dozen.
