Editorial :
To the officials, parliamentarians, sports media, diplomats
and activisas on this list.
We gotta go with this Tiger Alert in "the raw". No time to
wait for scores. Too much at stake in RANGOON to "hang
about" right now. Oh, one more thing. To those who do not
know of him.
The Minister for Sport UK, the Rt Hon Tony Banks MP,
"ain't such a bad guy", and not (he says) a "party hack".
So, even though this edition may seems somewhat
"nationalistic", even "anti N American". When you write
to him, be reasonably polite huh? ;-)
Merci.

Sirs,
The British Ambassador in Rangoon has been requested to
pay a visit to San Suu Kyi this coming week to assertain if
she considers throwing Burma out of Sydney 2000 a
worthwhile project.
Burma would alo be the first major drug producer to be
condemned to exclusion. This would also be a warning to
others.
"Let them have their own Olympic" is not such a joke as
one might think . At least to "the people". Who wouldn't
care if the Olympiads were stopped, as long as they could
make a true fight against drugs on the street.
In the US the first civil case against the CIA for transportation,
manufacture and dealing is about to come to court.

STOP ENGINES News Flash!!
New York is a great place to visit.. I love the place.
It's jazz history is second to none.
But not disimilar my own visits to the place. A Mr L Lewis
from a combination of Canada and Grt Brit, "wus robbed"
in NY last night. And whereas, no one really saw me being
mugged, the whole sports world knows that in the background,
and down by the ringside. Three judges were smelling bad.
"BRING THE FIGHT TO BRITAIN!!" Said the victim. "Chances
are that we can find some judges who are neither blind nor
neocorruptable".
This is sport ? If so, no one can complain about that which
follows.
Editorial :
You know why we (or at least some of us) love sport? Because
its like a diamond. Its has many facets but it is only a singular.
A One.
Where there are games, there are games within games.
There are the corporate games, the official games, the let's get
him a special invitation games, the conflict of interests games,
the bribery on the not-so-quiet games and the Big One. The
Olympiad.
And one more.
The Boycott Games.
It's true! And it's been a secret between me and my PGAET
friend at the Wentworth Club for some considerable while.
When it comes to sports we really do have the worst job in
the world. Breaking down barriers of thought.
Over the last week, the case for half of the Olympic boycott,
the exclusion of of Burma, has expanded. While this has not
pleased everyone.
But as a jazz musician ;-) the corridors of all embracing power
have always been dark and emotionally confusing.
And when it comes down to it, there is no reason why the
Tiger editorial team should be the Ones who are allowed
easy access through all the political protocol involved. The
Ones to cut the Gorgon corners. And to me, a jazz musician /
editor, it can be very frustrating. Because the old and trusted
campaigning methods that the establishment insists upon
involve spending time talking to people on a one to one basis.
And that's really hard work.
Anyway, it had eventually got into my single brain cell. that at
least on this side of the pond, I was working with people who
knew far more about the potential of this initiative than I did
myself.
But I digress. Here we are talking sports. In particular games
within games and the Olympiads.
The Alert talks to maybe a thousand people over each
weekend. Many of whom are delighted at this new star in the
sky that is Burma Out!. And a number of them will now begin
to act. .
So we are pleased that it's Not Difficult to convince people
to go home to Denmark, France, Sweden, Australia, New
Zealand, Spain etc etc. (Portugal is a little too busy with East
Timor) and work on Burma Out!
Midway through this week, the news had arrived that there
would be Burma Out! demonstrations outside Aussie High
Commissions in both Kenya and S Africa. That was a buzz
for a while. And the "wires" were starting to hum a little louder.
But from one nations political desks the silence was absolute.
In a country that is huge, only such as a million man march
can close down its capital. (In theory that could change, but
that's another story.) Whereas London can be closed down by
a few thousand people, and theoretically so, week after week.
So we explained that :
There was a need to talk.
a) The IOC is now fully compromised, and so too are the
games.
b) Such sports events could be used to clean rather than to
sanitize.
c) Why in this case it should make an example of Burma?
For the junta's murderous record on human rights, and an
exclusion of Burma would be "an example". It would be the
FIRST major drug producing nation to be banned from the
games.
"Argh!!" Screamed its London embassy. "Where will this stop?!"
At that time I could not refer them to a comparison with
Madison Square Garden.
But I explained again that N America receives all the heroin
from Burma and added that the people had got fed up with
"internal investigation" and added that the First Ever civil case
against the CIA for drug transportation, manufacture and
dealing had just begun.
And so it seems best not to go for for the middle men, huh?
But for the PRODUCERS. "Both the Burmese and the
N American people need our help".
So, "I don't care a damn" Said our hero.
"You can ban your own neighbors next time the Olympiad
arrives on your doorstep."
And so we talked of a plan for the "longer term". And an
overall structure or "ethic" which would have to be designed.
I agreed.
"Let the Drug Baron Nations have their own b'stard Olympics,
that way we can all have Two Olympiads"
"We can have the normal one, presumeably with Nike
and Murdoch and McCormack in to.
"And they can have theirs. With their runners stopping
halfway around the track to take a quick fix." ;-)
This is peoples war on drugs, This war does Not belong to the
state.
"Because the non brainwashed don't care about the IOC nor
the sports media nor about the preservation of the games.
The freedom loving people of N America want their kids to grow
up without tons of Burmese heroin on the streets. And this is
their protest. And we all should support them in that. And
pursue the war on drugs to both the ends of the earth and its
culture."
And I know that I heard a sigh at the end of the phone, and
thought I heard a tear of sadness roll down a cheek.
But that can be the case when one is caught cheating.
And to tell the world that there is a Real war on drugs. And
then come up with a powder puff cover up in a neuted corner
is public robbery, nay treachery. Big Time.
So there y'go chaps. "Many a true word is spoken in jest", and
that's London tonight.
Well not quite.
Far away in RANGOON a message has arrived with an
"ambassadorial person" who has access to Her who counts.
And as the answer to the question in it may set you and
the Grand Game alight.
Remembering that for millions of people, this is a deadly
serious issue. And that it never really hurts to accuse a
head of state of being "soft on hard drugs".

The Olympic Boycott : The OTHER HALF of the equation.
The Launch.
We invite you to the launch of a British Aboriginal
support group to be held at a public meeting, the
House of Commons on 22nd March, 1999.
The group's core activity will be a campaign to pressure
the Australian government into signing a treaty with
Australia's Indigenous Peoples. Australia, unlike other
nations which Britain colonised, was the one country
where Britain did not sign a treaty with the indigenous
population. This put the Aboriginal people at an enormous
disadvantage when it came to their struggle for their rights.
The group will also campaign to draw international
attention to the violations of Aboriginal human rights as
well as promote the recognition and protection of their
fundamental and inherent rights as Indigenous Australians.
The launch, on March 22 at 4.00pm in a Committee
Room at the House of Commons, Westminster;
Speakers from Various organisations including:
ENIAR (European Network for Indigenous Australian Rights)
NIWG (National Indigenous Working Group)
Gundjehmi Aboriginal Corporation - STOP Jabiluka Campaign
FAIRA (Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action)
After the launch you are cordially invited to a Candle
Light Vigil 6.30pm outside Australia House, The Strand,
London, WC2B 4LA -

The Tiger Alert has been highly critical of "the war on drugs"
in the past. It sees no reason, apart from a cessation of state
treason on the subject, not so to continue.
