Dear Editor,
Establishing a sound relationship with Australia's First Peoples as our
cultural partners is the best foundation we can achieve for life here in
the 21st Century. Instead we get a wrongheaded Constitutional Preamble from
a wrongheaded Prime Minister.
A word of advice for his successor. When dealing with First Peoples,
process is the key. Include First Peoples and their representatives as
cultural partners from the outset; during negotiations; and in the final
statement.
