Friends (I am writing this with great physical and emotional difficulty),
I will be voting No at the republican referendum because by voting Yes I will be
placing an inordinately increased level of power into the hands of one who has
shown he cant be trusted even with what he has. As Trudy has exclaimed, she
finds herself agreeing with Blainey about the PM's prescription could be that
for a rising dictator. Howard's most heard statements of late consist of, "I
have decided I will not agree to that..." or "I have decided that..." And we see
the spectacle of Reith agreeing that all promises are pragmatic... dont believe
all that you hear. Their supporters are always bleating about buyer beware. Well
I am being 'beware' in that I will be voting against the republic on referendum
day and that includes the Preamble.
