Of course it is. I never meant to convey that it was as one-dimensional as that. I am

I agree. I also belong here. When I returned from Canada and my family came with me, I
knew I was finally
home in a much deeper sense than whenI grew up here.

This is one of the things I was trying to describe.

And it is also this sense of dislocation that leads others to take onIndigenous
beliefs and shape them to
fit their own philosophy - something
that is not always appreciated by the Indigenous peoples.
That is not the same, of course, as growing your own roots in this country.

I mentioned this sense of belonging that people seek and Isaid that I was very lucky
in that my origins are
pretty well
in one place. For some, it is very difficult because their ancestors
came from so many different places.
Also, for some, finding the place of origin is not important and
I can understand that also. For others it is an impossible task.

It made perfect sense to me and you managed to make some of theissues much clearer
than I could.
There is one thing that I would like to mention though - this is not directed
at you Carrie - but there is a sense of betrayal in some of the comments and
reactions that hasn't changed from when I was young.
Sometimes it seems impossible to mention overseas, other heritage or origins without
somehow people
concluding that therefore there is no sense of being Australian.
This is something that was a bit of a shock.
