There is no need to defend Aboriginal communities by claiming they have a 'god'.
The statement is offensive in that it presumes that people need a Christian or Muslim
god in order to have
values and live according to accepted principles. Considering that non-indigenous
Australians have far
greater rates of alcoholism and yet a large number would consider themselves
Christian, illustrates how
ridiculous and prejudiced the statement was.
