Petition calls for spill of
 Democrats leadersip
 Tuesday 6 July, 1999 (11:06am AEST)

A former Australian Democrats' leader, John Coulter and
180 other Democrats have signed a new petition calling
for a spill of the party's leadership.

A previous attempt failed due to an insufficient number
 of signatures gathered.

The party's leader, Senator Meg Lees, is under attack
from Mr Coulter for her handling of the tax package
 negotiations.

He claims Senator Lees did not have the party's full
mandate to approve the Federal Government's tax
 package.

"Those of us who were upset...attempted desperately to
get Meg Lees to delay the package and there was no
reason whatsoever why that delay should not have been
 in place," he said.

"Meg Lees held all the aces."
