First it was delegates to the Conference of the Deaf and now a Tibetan monk. Of course Ruddock denies discrimination but when was the last time he denied as many visas to Europeans or North Americans? Lobsang Tenzin Rinpoche was due to arrive in Alice Springs this week for the first leg of a nine-month tour. But the tour organiser, Maureen Fallon, says he is still in India after being been denied a visa, pending health checks. Ms Fallon says in the past, the cultural programs offered by Tibetan monks, including the Rinpoche, have been popular. She says she is hopeful immigration officials will go through procedures quickly, as the head monk is vital to the program. "He's a man of the same age and background as the Dalai Lama himself and he's a wonderful man, a wonderful teacher," she said. "He's been to Australia four times, he's been totally cleared and is very healthy but unfortunately the documentation that he had clearing him from Indian doctors wasn't sufficient for the Australian High Commission in India when he went for his visa." 1999 Australian Broadcasting Corporation ------------------------------------------------------- RecOzNet2 has a page @ http://www.green.net.au/recoznet2 and is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/ To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the body of the message, include the words: unsubscribe announce or click here mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20announce This posting is provided to the individual members of this group without permission from the copyright owner for purposes of criticism, comment, scholarship and research under the "fair use" provisions of the Federal copyright laws and it may not be distributed further without permission of the copyright owner, except for "fair use."
