in education from early childhood to adult. Workshops foregrounding
Aboriginal success stories should be led by an Aboriginal
co-presenter.Early Childhood educators are especially invited to offer
workshops.

The conference has been initiated by Diane Roberts, Principal and Director
of Minimbah' Place of Learning' Aboriginal Preschool and Primary School,
Armidale. It is supported by the Early Childhood and Adult Education
programs at UNE. It has three strands each day - early childhood, adult and
school education and is designed to bring together both Aboriginal and
non-Aboriginal educators for three days on 28th, 29th and 30th September.
Each day has a theme: One day is around reconciliation and healing and will
be introduced by a keynote speech from Kerrie Tim, Executive Director of
Qld Dept of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy and Development.
The second day is aimed at developing curriculums and programs with a real
rather than token Aboriginal perspective and the keynote speaker for this
day is Lyn Riley Mundine from the Western Institute of TAFE. We also have
James Miller from the Powerhouse Museum coming to facilitate a workshop on
that day. On the third day we are addressing the overall issue of getting
Aboriginal communities and parents of children involved in their own and
their children's education. The keynote speaker for that day is Prof. John
Lester from Newcastle University. Diane, of course, will be featured as a
speaker and will welcome people to the conference.
The intention of the conference is for Aboriginal speakers and presenters
to be foregrounded in all the presentations and the remainder of the time
apart from the keynote speeches will be devoted to people relating their
success stories of parnerships and workshopping useful strategies across
all areas of Aboriginal education.
