Hi recoznet folks,
My name is Haydie Gooder and I am part of a group called Students for
Land Justice and Reconciliation (or sljr as its a bit of a mouthfull) at
melbourne university. We are a mainly non-Aboriginal group, working to
educate ourselves and our communities about issues concerning Indigenous
rights. We are also working to try to 'know our place' as non-Indigenous
in Australia.
I have been on the recoznet list for some time and have really enjoyed
the discussions, articles and the references and reminders about
events. Thanks a lot. I hope that I will also be able to contribute
now that I have got brave enough to speak. I am doing a Phd in geography
on the reconciliation process, focusing on everyday non-Indigenous
community initiatives in Victoria - grounding the rhetoric I guess. I
have only lived in Australia for two years, and so as a Pakeha New
Zealander I have a lot to learn....
Anyway, I am writing today to let you know about a couple of events we
are hosting in Melbourne. I hope you can come along.
