Forwarded from Christine Howes' "Info: NT & Recon" list: from W...... Recently one sunday morning I was reading the Courier Mail for sale sections..and Aboriginal Artefacts caught my eye, for sale 3 sacred stone objects. I phoned the number to inquire about them, I was told they were from Coen in Far North QLD and the man would not sell them as a set. I immediately got into action phoning up north to alert the mob up there what was happening..perhaps to buy back their sacred objects ..to attempt to stop the sale..something. WIthin half an hour of my first early morning ph call to the man selling them ..they were gone. Split up and sold to 3 buyers from across QLD. I was devastated, to know such ohjects were being barted for in the sunday papers..and that theses objects have very little chance of ever being bought togeather again, as the seller says he diddnt ask for names or addresses. The dilema is..do we buy back this stuff? If we do arent we just pushing the prices higher..like ransoming back our fathers bones?? Also if by some sheer chance I had been able to of 'rescued;' theses items for return to their rightful owners or custodians, what protection would of been place for me as a woman unrelated to the objects rightful custodian. Would I too of been breaking law..? Would I have been at risk of spirtual illness or worse for daring to touch them or removal?? I am interested in anyone elses responces..because the caped crusader in me would be highly tempted next time to attempt a further rescue.. take care ------------------------------------------------------- RecOzNet2 has a page @ http://www.green.net.au/recoznet2 and is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/ To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the body of the message, include the words: unsubscribe announce or click here mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20announce This posting is provided to the individual members of this group without permission from the copyright owner for purposes of criticism, comment, scholarship and research under the "fair use" provisions of the Federal copyright laws and it may not be distributed further without permission of the copyright owner, except for "fair use."
