ABC News Thu, 21 Oct 1999 14:31 AEST LOCAL NEWS : Northern Territory Lack of interest in Aboriginal education revealed An internal Northern Territory Education Department review has found a systemic lack of interest in Aboriginal education. The review addressed the Territory Government's expenditure of $90 million of federal funding for Aboriginal education. The internal review team formed in July has provided a damning account of the department and the Government's performance over the past two years. The team found the department can show only marginal achievement in the results of indigenous school students. The review says last year only 38 per cent of agreed targets were achieved, even though many required a 1 per cent increase in performance. It says senior management has been unwilling to take a concerted, coordinated approach to the improvement of education. And the review says there has been a history of using funds set aside for indigenous education for the department's core business. © 1999 Australian Broadcasting Corporation ------------------------------------------------------- RecOzNet2 has a page @ http://www.green.net.au/recoznet2 and is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/ To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the body of the message, include the words: unsubscribe announce or click here mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20announce This posting is provided to the individual members of this group without permission from the copyright owner for purposes of criticism, comment, scholarship and research under the "fair use" provisions of the Federal copyright laws and it may not be distributed further without permission of the copyright owner, except for "fair use."
