Beattie pushes ahead with
Pearson plan

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has set up
what he calls a "rapid response mechanism" to
deal with Aboriginal lawyer Noel Pearson's plan
to revitalise indigenous communities.

Mr Beattie says Cabinet will get regular reports
about the progress of Mr Pearson's plan.

There will be a steering group involving the
directors-general of various government
departments and seperate committees to look
at economic, social policy and implementation
issues.

Mr Beattie says all groups will involve
indigenous representatives and he hopes to
take a more detailed response to Cabinet soon.

Mr Beattie is also urging the Federal
Government to support Mr Pearson's plan.
