Peter, I just reread your post (it's late and I'm not as sharp as I should be) and realise we are talking about the same problem from different angles. I agree that something should be done about the conditions that create these problems - I have no argument there. In many ways it is the more important because it is preventative. BUT I don't think we should wash our hands of providing justice and human rights to kids who are the products of our previous handwashing. Carr is in this for votes. I doubt very much he even understands much about children at all. His whole solution has been to sweep them under the carpet or at least off the street. What I really find appalling is Kerry Chikarovski backing this so enthusiastically because she should know better.
