Does anyone have an electronic source for the infamous Herron denial
document? Is it available in hard-copy somehow? Does anyone know how to
get hold of it? Would love to read it.
Jim's point about the role of the IPA is correct, and if Herron/Howard used
Brunton's IPA 'backgrounder' as a source, then that explains a lot. The IPA
are not just a source of research for the Libs, they are the Libs. It was
those associated with the IPA who chose Menzie's to front their new
anti-Labor party. So as Sein Fein is the political wing of the IRA, the
Liberal Party is the political wing of the IPA (see Hancock's new book:
National & Permanent - Federal Organisation Of The Liberal Party 1944-1965).
Not that's there's anything wrong with this, but we should be aware that
there is an industry-funded (at least 10% of their funding comes from the
mining industry alone) policy think tank behind the Libs who are always
going to feed in this sort of 'research'. It is clear that ever since the
Stolen Generations Report was released that the IPA and a network of
conservative intellectuals have consciously sought to undermine it,
including those with a very public voice like PP McGuinness and Gerard
Henderson. (If anyone read Henderson's piece on the topic in the SMH
yesterday they would have been treated to one of the most appalling examples
of apologetics to come out in a long time - and in such a reasonable tone of
voice.)
