9.00pm ANZAC DAY 25 April 2000

SBS Television

SPECIAL: CROSSING TRACKS - HARRY'S WAR -
Writer/director Richard Frankland,

the first indigenous Australian to win an award at the Hollywood Black Film
Festival earlier this year, has based his drama on the true story of his uncle
Harry Saunders who enlisted in the army in 1942. The program centres on Harry
(David Ngoombujarra) and Mitch (Peter Docker), two mates who go off to fight in
Papua New Guinea during WWII. The film follows a friendship which transcends
race, cultural references and social barriers - a story of the way war drives
men to the brink and how the journey becomes more important than the journey's
end. Also winner of the Best Short Film Award at Flickerfest 2000 and the
International Catholic Film Organisation Award for an outstanding Australian
short promoting human values at the 1999 Melbourne International Film
Festival.. (An SBS Independent production, in English). M (V)
