Aboriginal protestors cut off
from water
About 30 Aboriginal protestors have no access to
water following a decision by WMC to shutdown a
bore at Lake Eyre South, in South Australia's
north.
WMC corporate affairs manager, Ruchard Yeeles,
says members of the Arabunna Going Home
Peace Camp have camped in the arid region,
about 70 kilometres north of Maree, for the past
two months.
Earlier this year a similar protest site was set up in
the heart of Adelaide led by Aboriginal elder Kevin
Buzzacott.
Mr Yeeles says the protestors are trespassers and
they should move away.
"They're actually on our property, the camp is on
WMC property and the bore is a WMC bore," he
said.
"They didn't talk to us before they moved on,
before they established the camp, and we regard
it as tresspassing on our property and we're not
prepared to give in any way to that."
