Senator Brown won the seat from the Democrats' Robert Bell in 1996. Democrats' leader Meg Lees says the party will stand candidates at the next federal poll to try to regain the seat. "We consider this seat to be our seat," she said. "It was taken from us by the Greens and we will be working very hard at the coming election to get our seat back.
