Spot on, Ian.

In his National Press Club appearance yesterday, and on previous occasions
,Nossal has emphasised that Howard must be respected and his views given
weight by virtue of the fact that he is P.M.-----what if his name was Hanson
or Hitler.----would Nossal still insist that the Reconciliation document
take their views into account?--------Their official political stature would
not ,in any way, validate their views.

I thought Sir Gustav's efforts yesterday were pretty shallow, particularly
when he was questioned by Margo Kingston regarding the Reconciliation
Committee marching alongside Howard at Corroboree 2000----he kept repeating
that it is better to keep talking rather than discontinuing dialogue with
Howard----the trouble with this approach is that Howard uses their continued
public respect for his position to give credence to his racist
approach-----was Nossal a Howard appointee?

I think Patrick Dodson and others have publicly recognised that the
Reconciliation process has, at this stage, been hijacked by Howard and
people who, intentionally or not, are caught up in trying to appease him
because of his position, not because they give credit to his views.

Time for a Treaty.
