Forwarded from Christine Howes: IYP2000 APPLICATIONS CLOSE 30 MAY 2000 The International Youth Parliament 2000 (IYP2000) is an initiative of Community Aid Abroad - Oxfam Australia . It will take place in Sydney, Australia, over ten days from 19th to 28th October 2000. The IYP2000 is seeking applications from young people around the world (aged between 15-28) who wish to put forward their ideas for building a diverse and sustainable human society and to seek youthful solutions to both local and global challenges. The agenda of the Parliament will concentrate on three significant areas: � Breaking the Cycle of Poverty - focusing, among other things, on Education, Youth Employment and Technology � Youth in Conflict - addressing the needs of young people in declared and undeclared war zones and exploring youth roles in resolving social conflicts � Cultural Activism - celebrating the artistic expression of young people. (particular focus will be placed on Indigenous Peoples, Gender issues, Environmental Sustainability and HIVAids. ) Training, skills exchange and capacity building will form the fourth pillar of IYP2000's agenda. The IYP2000 deadline for delegate applications is 30 May 2000. Two delegates from each country (plus 2 indigenous and two non-indigenous delegates from each Australian state) will be selected by the IYP selection panel in Sydney, Australia.
